First!

I was with some friends who don't watch hockey. Goes to the shootout. I say "Penguins will lose on a high glove side goal". Wish I could have claimed to be Nostradamus, but I told them anyone facing Jarry knew what to do.

A misconception by those outside of Pittsburgh was that the terrible attendance early this century was due to losing. The poor attendance was due to fans knowing they were being asked to pay for a product that the owners weren’t financially supporting. It only takes a small amount of hockey knowledge to know that being sold a Kraft fata etc team is going to fall flat. So long as the team spends to the cap and tries to be competitive the team will continue to play to good crowds.

Its not just Jarry. Its a common place for goalies to be scored on.

I agree with everything you said here but going that route is usually a recipe for sustained mediocrity...

I watched some bits and pieces of the game since I missed it last night. I thought the Pens played a solid, yet boring game, which I'm fine with right now.

-Jarry was outstanding, obvy.

-Matheson was solid in his return. Yes, he made one gnarly turnover but at least he was fast enough to get back and make sure it wasn't a full on breakaway.

-McGinn is going to be an unsung star for this team. Him not having Tanev's speed makes people pass over him, but he does so many things well and the little things right. This will prove to be a solid signing.

-The Carter line was meh, but wasn't bad. We can't expect them to dominate every night, but I was fine with them.

-Kap has been the only disappointing penguin.

-The Letang/Dumo pairing will rebound. I remember even last year them starting off slow.

STL has some solid BBQ. Never had Kansas City, but for pork BBQ, Memphis is still the champ IMO.

Texas wins the beef side of BBQ and there's no close second.

That game was a sloppy chess match. Pens didn't play bad, they just don't have enough finish right now. It was a pretty exciting 1-1 through 60. Jarry was great.

Letang and Dumo's play is concerning. I'm willing to bet their #'s improve when Sid returns.

Carter and Kap were both floating around a bit too much last night. The play always seemed ahead of Kap.

The second was definitely sloppy, but I thought the Pens were still pretty tight overall. IMO it's always more important to see how a team responds and the fact the Pens were able to tighten it back in the third is a testament to how dialed in everyone is. In the past the Pens seem to just let it go and never get back on track.

You mean the game of chicken Mario played with Pittsburgh to get the arena they tried to back out of? Was never a serious threat.

This isn’t a dig at Pittsburgh fans specifically, but the arena is going to be quite empty in a few years once this era is officially over. People aren’t going to spend their entertainment dollars on a poor product just for the bragging rights they are a “true” fan. This would happen in the majority of markets around the league after the run the Penguins have been on.

Tell this to dumbass Notre Dame and Michigan fans.

Blacks BBQ in Austin was incredible. I really wanted to go to Franklin's but I was only there for work and definitely didn't have an extra 6 hours to stand in line haha

Black's BBQ Beef Rib was 2nd only to A5 Wagyu to the best meat I've ever eaten in my life.

Agreed Memphis has amazing BBQ, There is place accross from BB King's (on Beale) called Blues City Cafe.... Best ribs i have ever had!

and I also love St Louis BBQ, I stongly recommend Sugar Fire and Pappy's is also top shelf.

KC was good, but I like The Lou's better... To be fair, I heard that the best place in KC (which I didn't go) is in a neighborhood that is pretty tough. I was there with the Fam, so we decided to skip that one.

Texas has an unfair advantage! Those long horns are so tasty, almost anything beef is better in TX!

Gates, Oklahoma Joe's, Arthur Bryant's -- those were all the ones I tried and they were incredible. Oklahoma Joe's did a smoked polish sausage that was insane.

Gate's sliced pork was solid, but Arthur Bryant's burnt ends were out of this world.

--Side note in Texas, if you're ever in Austin, go to Rudy's and get their creamed corn. I've never had anything like it. The BBQ is kind of average but that creamed corn is awesome.

Terry Black's is heaven on earth. One of the best meals I ever had. Did you get their beef ribs? That to me was the equivalent of getting a high-end ribeye in a top steakhouse.
